Alex Mats is a forensic accountant with more than 15 years of experience. He has been retained as an expert on dozens of occasions.

Alex has authored numerous expert reports and provided expert testimony in both deposition and arbitration settings. He has analyzed accounting and financial damages issues and provided litigation support in various types of disputes in state and federal courts.

Alex has worked as an accountant and an auditor and has consulted on behalf of Fortune 500 companies in various industries, including financial services, insurance, and real estate. Prior to joining HKA, he provided litigation consulting and forensic accounting services at Capital Forensics, Inc.

Alex specializes in the investigation and resolution of business disputes, primarily related to the forensic accounting and commercial damages practice areas. His experience includes internal audit and fraud risk assessment, uncovering and examining embezzlement schemes, securities fraud, insurance fraud, and money laundering, as well as business interruption insurance claims, shareholder disputes, and breach of contract claims. He assesses the magnitude of fraudulent activity and quantifies damages, or presents alternative damage models, to assist with settlement negotiations and case resolution.

Alex Mats is a certified public accountant in Illinois, certified in financial forensics and a certified fraud examiner. He holds a master’s degree in forensic accounting and is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and the Association of Certified Fraud Examiners.
